How To Use The Lessons? Supplement your Main Text(s). Of course, the main purpose of these photo-reproducible lessons is to supplement textbooks. In addition, lots of teachers use the lessons just to get a class out of a slump - you know, when students are lackluster or not enjoying themselves. The 160+ lessons are designed to get students actively involved in some task or project in which they have to use English to accomplish the goal. For ice-breakers, time-fillers, motivational activities - the fun EFL4U lesson worksheets are a must!

How NOT To Use The Lessons? These lessons are NOT a course book! They are meant strictly as supplementary or 'stand-alone' lessons. Some of the lessons are only a few minutes in length, others may take up to an hour, or longer. Students need a progressive curriculum, preferably with a solid course book. But for an ice-breaker, or for motivation or just to have a little fun, once or twice a week, give them a supplementary worksheet - just to keep them interested and enjoying their English education.

Are The Worksheets Appropriate For Adults? Yes! Yes! Yes! It's very difficult to find enjoyable lessons that don't condescend to adults. For some reason, the world tends to equate low language ability with low mentality. There are tons of resources for high-level ability students of English, but very very few materials for adults who have a low level of English ability. Nearly all of the lessons published by EFL4U have a unique appeal for not only younger learners but also adults.

Why So Few Lessons For Children? There are TONs of materials for children The two easiest groups to prepare lessons for are children and advanced learners. Why? It's pretty obvious. Children are wonderful learners, and since, depending on their age, they probably are at the pre-reading stage in English, lesson materials seem to be endless. Just visit a few of the sites found here or here to see what I mean. Thousands of lessons and lesson ideas are available for free from the net. The other group is the advanced learners. Materials for this group exist in abundance just about everywhere. Even your daily newspaper is an excellent tool for advanced learners who already have a good command of English. In fact, nearly all advanced learners of English can 'self-teach' therefore the need for additional materials is less demanding.

Can I Illustrate For Money? Interested in Illustrating Students learn better when they enjoy what they're studying. Humor always works. Kinds of Illustrations needed Can you illustrate any of the following: Black & white ink or pen illustrations All of the worksheets are photo-reproducible and must be able to be printed and copied. I'll eventually need a hard copy - either fax or snail mail. (jpeg, gif, bit map and pdf files are OK for proofing the work.) Submission steps: 1) You'll receive an email from me with a request for an illustration. At times this is a specific request. Sometimes the illustration is left up to the illustrator. 2) The illustrator contacts me via email or fax with a rough sketch. 3) Once approved, the illustrator makes a final drawing. 4) On a rare occasion, slight modifications need to be performed. 5) Finished. You will be given credit in the Teachers' Instructions page. Payment for Illustrations You receive approximately $25.00 from start to finish for one worksheet. Each project has a different budget. Payment is by check drawn from an American bank. Sample Illustrations I need to see a few samples of your work. You can send these via email attachment as jpeg, gif, bit map or pdf is fine. Or fax: Fax: (81) 22 262-8109

Where Do The Lesson Ideas Come From? Necessity Is the Mother Of Invention I'm first and foremost a teacher. I love working in the classroom, especially when I see students who are 'Catching On,' and are becoming 'Functional' with some element of their new language. Frequently, I work with students on something from a textbook, but they continue to have trouble putting it into use, or sounding natural. Their language can be choppy, broken or just sloppy. That's when the first kernel of an idea starts rolling around in my head. I experiment a couple of ways with students to hit upon one method that works. And it's got to be a fun method. Then I shape the idea into a worksheet, get an illustrator to put a little pizazz into the lesson, test is dozens of times, send itt off to fellow teachers for their comments and suggestions, and finally, if it's fun, educational and unique, it get added to the Lesson Collection Sets. Whew! And it looks so easy!

Problems With Printing 99% of all printing problems are the result of: #1. Adobe Reader has become corrupt or is outdated. Simply install the newest version of the free Adobe Reader. #2. Some browsers can display files in the dpf format (Adobe Reader - all of the lesson worksheets are in dpf format). Some people report printing problems when printing from the file displayed on their browser. To correct this problem, download the pdf file directly to your PC desktop (do not open it with your browser) and print it directly through Adobe Reader. #3. A gremlin. If you write me and offer all of the details about your printing problem, assuming you've already attended to #1 and #2 above, I'll see what I can do to help. E-mail.
